Getting Kids to College It happens every year. Teenagers become young adults and want to get to college after graduation. The problem is, they don’t know how. Usually, we hear excuses from them such as, â€Å"My family and I don’t have the money,† or â€Å"It’s financially impossible.† What is really going on is that students don’t realize that there are resources and ways for the financially troubled. The young adults don’t take the time to research the resources or seek the available possibilities. This problem happens mostly because it may seem impossible to students, so they give up, and because there is not enough education on the topic or not enough counseling. Most schools, like the one I went to, had only one counselor per class. That is one each for freshmen, sophomores, Juniors and Seniors. I remember trying to get to the counselor to ask for advice and to get information. It took a long time just to make an appointment, and even though I did get to him, the time was short because there were others that had scheduled appointments. This needs to be solved. Students need direct access to a counselor, or it is pointless having one. Perhaps this could be solved by a more ordered counseling system or the schools just having more than one counselor. In high school, we always heard from the teachers, â€Å"You guys need to complete your work because it is a preparation for college.† It’s a good thing that we are being prepared for the type of college work, but what about education for how the financial part of the college system works. In this article, I’ll discuss the differences between public and private colleges that you should consider in your search. What Are Public and Private Colleges? Before we get to the main differences, let’s take a second to define public and private colleges.Public colleges are higher educational institutions that areset up and funded by state governments.Well-known public colleges include the University of California, Ohio State University, the University of Alabama, and the University of Texas. Private colleges are higher educational institutions that areset up and funded by individuals outside of the government.Private colleges may be either â€Å"non-profit† or â€Å"for-profit†. Non-profit private colleges are solely focused on providing a quality education for students and helping them to achieve academic and career goals.They answer to a financially disinterested board of trustees, not an owner and shareholders. Shaw has often been criticized for his inability to create well- developed round characters. His characters are usually seen as mere puppets propelled by the crisis of the plot or as mouthpieces for his socialist viewpoint. However in Pygmalion,, Shaw vindicates himself of these charges by the creation of rounded and life-like characters such as Higgins and Eliza. Clearly they are not authorial stooges. They have a peculiar quality that leaves a lasting imprint on the reader's memory. But there is some truth in the charge that Shaw created a mouthpiece for his own ideas and the character of Alfred Doolittle is a case in point. While Doolittle is undoubtedly a staple comic character, he is an artificial and flat one. Doolittle is there for a purpose - he serves Shaw's didactic needs. As such he is in the Dickens' vein of exaggeration. Doolittle's character is drawn for the sole purpose of ridiculing the Victorian philosophy of the "undeserving poor." One cannot imagine such a characte r existing in real life. On the whole, however, Pygmalion is peopled with imaginative and lively characters. While Higgins and Eliza are excellent, even the minor characters are well drawn. Henry Higgins Higgins is an extremely interesting character and the life of the play. Although the play's obvious concern is the metamorphosis of a common flower girl into a duchess, the development of Higgins' character is also important. The play isn't only Eliza's story. One also detects changes in Higgins or to be more precise he appears to the reader in a new light at the end. This is seen when he tells Eliza that he has grown accustomed to seeing her face and hearing her voice. This is not much of a sensitive display of emotions but it is quite diffe... ...ough the character of Higgins. It is obvious that Higgins's manners are not much better than those of the Covent Garden flower girl. In fact Higgins comes off much worse because of the fact that he has had all the civilizing benefits of wealth and education yet he is rude to the point of being boorish and ill mannered, is given to frequent inflammatory outbursts, and possesses abominable table manners. The fact that such an ill- mannered person is accepted by society as a "gentleman" provides Shaw with an opportunity to expose the shallowness and hypocrisy of such a society. Shaw thus critiques a society that views wealth and the ability to speak correctly as the constitutive criteria of a prescriptive gentleman. It is one of Shaw's master ironic strokes to make such a rude and boorish egotistical bully the main agent for transforming a common flower girl into a lady.

Human trafficking is the illegal trade of humans for forced labor and sex labor. Innocent victims are trafficked through lies, fraudulence, and threats. Traffickers deceive them by promises of a better life; they abduct them through fraudulent methods; and they threaten their families to get them to go with them. Human trafficking not only occurs in foreign countries but also in the United States. Oklahoma is also a location where trafficking occurs. Many Oklahomans have personally experienced the negative and terrible effects of human trafficking. Different things occur to victims of human trafficking. Many victims are forced into prostitution or forced into labor. â€Å"A trafficker may offer to smuggle someone into a nation for legitimate†¦show more content†¦Sadly, parents sometimes traffic their own children. A teacher in Missouri found sleeping pills in a female student’s backpack, which prompted an inquiry into the girl’s situation. It was later determined that she was a victim of trafficking to men by her own mother. According to Emily Russell, a human trafficking specialist with the Missouri Sheriff’s Association, â€Å"There’s story after story of parent’s putting their children in this position. Sometimes it’s behind locked doors and sometimes it’s out in front of us in the open.† (Sterling2) A primary location for human trafficking is at truck stops. According to Lieutenant Kimberlin, there are 25 or more truck stops that can hold 20 trucks overnight in Oklahoma.
